Four more golfers booked their slots for the upcoming 2024 NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale during the Kisii Monthly Mug event held on Saturday at the Kisii Sports Club.

The Grand Finale is set to be played on November 29 at the Muthaiga Golf Club. Although the main qualifying legs ended after the Great Rift Valley Lodge event last month, the Kisii Monthly Mug presented a glorious opportunity for golfers from the club to book their places and be part of the main event.

Elijah Simba, Christopher Maoto, Christine Nyangena, and Venus Taabu became the most recent inclusions into the Grand Finale list following their triumphs in respective categories on Saturday.

Simba returned an impressive score of 68 Nett playing off handicap 21 to emerge the overall winner ahead of Zack Bichoge (Handicap 8) who scored 72 Nett.

Speaking after the event, Simba attributed his victory to his competitive four-ball which pushed him to do better.

“I want to thank the sponsors for the day, NCBA, for partnering with Kisii Sports Club to make this event a reality. I found myself with two guys who happen to be seniors in golf here and they were giving me a lot of pressure. That was the former captain and the former chairman, which pushed me a lot,” he said.

Playing off handicap 8, Maoto also carded 74 Nett to be crowned the men’s winner while handicap 26 Nyangena claimed the lady’s prize with 72 Nett points.

Taabu carded 66 points playing off handicap 44 to win the junior category as Ben Kalya emerged as the guest winner.

Apart from emerging as the lady winner, Nyangena also had the longest drive among the ladies while Nicholas Odhiambo did so for the men as Ochieng Abekah got the nearest to the pin.

The four golfers joined over 100 other golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda who already had booked their slots for the Muthaiga event from the previous events held throughout the year.

Speaking at the event, NCBA Group Director, Retail Banking, Tirus Mwithiga said: “I would like to congratulate the winners of today’s event and wish the qualifiers all the best as they head to Muthaiga to represent not just this club but also the region at large. At NCBA, we are dedicated to promoting golf as an inclusive sport for all individuals across the country. We have demonstrated this commitment through our support of the amateur series, which aims to nurture talent and provide opportunities for golfers of all experience levels and we will continue doing so.”

One more regional qualifying tournament is set to take place in Tanzania next weekend on November 24th at the Kili Golf Club to determine the final team that will book a slot for the season finale.
