By Walter Chanzu
A distraught woman has come forward with claims of being conned out of millions of shillings by a man she alleges used fake love relationships to extort money from her and several of her close female friends. The man, identified as Elias Kariuki Kavwangi of national identity number (ID) 10894769, is a 55-year-old man from Gacheche Sub-Location in Embu East, Runyenjes Division, Kagaari Location.
Speaking anonymously to protect her identity, the woman detailed how Kavwangi charmed his way into her life, convincing her to be his girlfriend before exposing his manipulative and dishonest nature. According to her, he introduced himself as a simple man from upcountry but later revealed his ties to Mombasa.
The woman recounted a visit to Kavwangi’s house in Shanzu, at Tsavo Street Estate Volume, where she began to uncover what she describes as his “unforgiving” and deceptive lifestyle. She alleged that he often bragged about his influence, claiming connections within the Kenya Kwanza Government and threatening anyone who dared to challenge him.
Elaborate Lies and Extortion
The woman claimed Kavwangi recently faked a medical emergency to solicit money from her. On November 22, he reportedly told her he was hospitalized, but she later discovered he was in Matinyani, Kitui. She further accused him of driving a red Mitsubishi G-Wagon (KBJ 977Y) stocked with alcohol and cigarettes, painting a picture of an extravagant yet reckless lifestyle.
Shocking Revelations
In her account, the woman alleged that Kavwangi subjected her to psychological distress, showing her explicit content involving other women and boasting about his exploits. She also claimed he frequented male-dominated dens and used intimidation tactics, including showing off a firearm.

Last Friday, a tip from a friend led her to Nyali Centre, where Kavwangi was allegedly spotted with his family. She claimed he fled the scene after a friend attempted to contact him.
A Plea for Justice
The woman says she has substantial evidence, including WhatsApp messages, bank transactions, and other documents, to support her claims. She is now demanding that Kavwangi return the money she alleges he swindled from her and others.
“I regret trusting him and allowing myself to go through this ordeal. All I want is my money back. He can stay with his family,” she said.
Authorities have yet to confirm or respond to the allegations. The woman is urging others who may have had similar experiences to come forward.
