Majid Al Futtaim Opens 27th Carrefour Store in Kenya, Strengthening its Commitment to Kenya’s Economic Growth
Nairobi, Kenya, 6 January 2025: Majid Al Futtaim, which owns the exclusive rights to operate Carrefour in Kenya, has opened a new store at Rhapta Promenade Mall in Westlands, Nairobi with the aim to enhance convenience and increase accessibility for its customers. This is the sixth store opening in the past year, highlighting the retailer’s continued expansion in the country, investment in the local economy, and heightened initiative to bring its services closer to its growing customer base.
The new store is expected to generate over 45 direct employment opportunities for Kenyans, adding on to the existing team of over 2,800 colleagues in the country. Last year alone, Carrefour has created over 700 new direct job opportunities for Kenyans through its expansion efforts. Carrefour’s increased footprint has also presented avenues for business growth for more than 690 local farmers, SMEs, and manufacturers who supply products to the retailer, contributing to a remarkable 99 per cent local sourcing rate.
Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa, Majid Al Futtaim Retail, stated: “At Carrefour, we continuously work towards aligning our business operations with the socio-economic goals of Kenya’s development agenda. This enables us to boost national growth while significantly contributing to the local retail and food industry, where we have created employment opportunities for the local community and presented business growth avenues for local farmers, SMEs and manufacturers.”
He added: “With the opening of the new store, our customers can shop high-quality, affordable products in their neighbourhood – a testament to our commitment towards ensuring accessibility and convenience, and providing seamless shopping experiences for our customers.”
Spanning over 1,600 square-metres, the new store offers a wide selection of consumer goods, groceries, fresh produce and essential household items comprising over 11,500 products. The store also features Carrefour’s self-checkout service, designed to make shopping more convenient and speed up the checkout process for customers purchasing 15 items or less. With this addition, there are currently eight Carrefour stores offering this service in the country.
Majid Al Futtaim now operates 27 Carrefour stores in Kenya, with 23 located in Nairobi and the neighbouring towns, three in Mombasa, and one in Kisumu.
