Kenya Breweries’ Brand Tusker Fails to Top Premier League

12 times Kenyan champions Tusker FC lost a chance of topping the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) over the weekend.

Shabana FC came from behind to hand Tusker FC their first defeat of the year following a 2-1 victory at Gusii Stadium in Kisii.

Tusker who needed at least a draw to overtake league leaders Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and top the table but the result meant that they remained in the second spot with 27 points as the bankers but dwarfed on goal difference.

Former FKF champions Kakamega Homeboyz put an end to their four-game winless run by edging FC Talanta 1-0

Homeboyz held on for the 1-0 lead to kickstart their year with three crucial points that left Talanta reeling with three consecutive losses.

The Kakamega based outfit remains in 13th place with 19 points while Kenya Academy of Sports run FC Talanta are perched in the relegation zone with 14 one place better than bottom placed Posta Rangers.

In Machakos, Bidco United failed to end their three-game winless run with a barren draw against Murang’a Seal, who are now four games without a loss and in eighth position.

The 2008 champions Mathare United moved to 10th on the standings with 20 points after being held to a barren draw by Kariobangi Sharks in a “Slum Derby” at Dandora Stadium. Sharks are a point behind Mathare.

Ulinzi Stars made it two wins on the bounce after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Mara Sugar at Dandora Stadium on Sunday 12 January.

Having rode through a tough seven-match winless run at the close of 2024, Ulinzi made sure to build on their 2-1 victory over Nairobi City Stars before the break with a dominant performance to start the year, and one that was settled late in the game.

The win takes the soldiers 12th on the standings while George Midenyo’s, side in addition to losing their sixth game in seven matches drop to 10th.
