Cabinet Revolt? CSs Move to Curb Katoo Ole Metito’s Influence in State Deals

A section of Cabinet Secretaries is reportedly lobbying behind the scenes to curb the influence of State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito, accusing him of extortion, blackmail, and intimidation in the awarding of government tenders.

Sources indicate that Katoo has been invoking President William Ruto’s name to pressure ministries and state departments into awarding lucrative tenders, a move that has irked senior government officials.

Allegedly, Katoo is under pressure to raise at least KES 2 billion for his 2027 gubernatorial campaign and has set an ambitious monthly target of KES 100 million from state contracts.

One Cabinet Secretary, who has reportedly been avoiding Katoo, has confided to close allies that he is unwilling to jeopardize his position by engaging in questionable deals linked to the State House official.

Despite his growing financial demands, Katoo’s campaign team is said to be persistently pressuring him for more funds, intensifying tensions within government circles.

However, within the Cabinet, Katoo is said to have minimal support, with some newly appointed CSs describing him as “nagging and stubborn” due to his aggressive approach to government dealings.

The internal push to rein in his influence highlights the growing power struggles and friction among top government officials ahead of the 2027 elections.
