Mundia and Konzolo Shine at NCBA Golf Series in Kakamega
Home players James Mundia and Cedric Konzolo were the standout performers as the NCBA Golf Series made its 10th stop of the season at the 9-hole Kakamega Sports Club.
The event drew over 100 golfers from across the region who competed for slots to play at the series Grand Finale.
James Mundia, playing off handicap 9, impressed with a solid round of 69 nett, earning him the Overall Nett Winner title. His course management and steady play kept him ahead of the pack on a layout he knows well.
Fellow club member Cedric Konzolo, playing off scratch, claimed the Overall Gross Winner title with a score of 77 gross, showing sharp focus and technical skill to top the leaderboard in the gross category. Konzolo is no stranger to success, having been crowned the overall winner of the 2023 NCBA Golf Series at his home-club. He was also the runner-up of the 2023 NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale held at Sigona Golf Club.
In the ladies’ category, Irine Ashioya, playing off handicap 17, scored 95 gross to win the Overall Lady Gross title.
In other results, in Division 1 (handicap 0–15), Jimmy Akhonya from Kenya Airforce posted 71 nett to win the category, narrowly beating Bruce Madete (hcp 16), who also scored 71 nett but settled for runner-up on countback.
In Division 2 (handicap 16–30), Mikal Kombo of Kakamega Sports Club took the win with 72 nett, while Lilian Kong’ani from Nyanza Sports Club followed closely with 75 nett to finish as runner-up.
In Division 3 (handicap 31–), Rosemary Nanyama, playing off handicap 51, recorded an impressive 68 nett to clinch the win. Kihoto Njuguna of Nyanza Sports Club was runner-up with 69 nett.
In the on-course challenges, Lydia Oketch took home the prize for Nearest to the Pin, while the Longest Drive honors went to Nicholas Odhiambo in the men’s category and Dr. Linah Akello in the ladies’ category, both from Nyanza Golf Club.
The Junior Winner was Elvis Mbakaya (handicap 15) from Kakamega Sports Club, recognized for his promising performance.
