10 shortlisted in Search for New Registrar of Political Parties

Ten people have been shortlisted for the position of registrar of political parties following the appointment of former registrar of political parties as a commissioner of the IEBC.

In a notice to the public on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the Public Service Commission (PSC) shortlisted Ali Abdullahi Surraw, Sophia Kaindi Sitati Muchangi, Geoffrey Obonyo (PWD), Everlyne Cherotich Koiyan, Aloyce Peter Ndege, Mercy Kalondu Wambua, OGW, Manana W. E. Rodgers, Rahma Adan Jillo, Lorionokou John Cox, and Florence Tabu Birya.

This follows an advertisement for the role on July 15, 2025, where applicants with at least 15 years of experience in fields such as political science, public administration, law, governance, finance, or management were encouraged to apply.

The applicants were equally urged to be compliant with Chapter Six of the Constitution and demonstrate high moral standards.

“The Registrar is a State officer within the meaning of Article 260 of the Constitution and shall serve for a non-renewable term of six years,” PSC stated.

PSC equally shortlisted 10 more candidates for the position of deputy registrar of political parties.

Among those shortlisted were Seth Odhiambo Onyango, Josphine Kirion Eregae, Simon Owawa Nyamolo (PWD), Chebett Koske, Julius Cheche, Peter Mutui, Agatha Wanjiku Wahome, Mohamed Abdullahi Abdi, Robert Psakit Borter, and Gilbert Wiliam Opanga.

The Assistant Registrar, who will deputise the Registrar, requires similar qualifications but with at least 10 years of relevant experience in fields such as political science, public administration, law, governance, finance, or management.
