Ezekiel Mutua, the Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), has called for the production of a feature film based on the life and legacy of the late Raila Amolo Odinga.

Through a post on his X account on Sunday, October 19, 2025, just hours after Raila’s burial in Bondo, Siaya County, Mutua said that a well-produced movie would preserve the memory of one of Kenya’s greatest political figures for generations to come.

Mutua described the late Raila as a charismatic and larger-than-life leader whose story was worthy of a global cinematic production.

“Baba was buried on a Sunday, and nothing happened. The tradition of burials held from Monday to Saturday only is for other people, not Baba. Baba was who he thought he was,” Mutua wrote.

The MCSK boss proposed that the movie should be titled after Raila’s unique Kenya Airways call sign “RAO001,” which was used during the repatriation of his body from India earlier in the week.

“He said the call sign itself was symbolic and could serve as a captivating title for a film that captures Raila’s journey through Kenya’s turbulent political history.

According to Mutua, the movie should not only focus on Raila’s political career but also highlight his humorous and relatable nature that connected him deeply to ordinary citizens.

“His KQ callsign ‘RAO001’ is truly captivating and worthy of a blockbuster film that chronicles the life and legacy of Raila Amolo Odinga, the charismatic leader.

The movie should highlight his signature wit with memorable phrases like ‘wasiwasi wa nywele’ and ‘kadenge na mpira,’ which endeared him to the common people,” he stated.

A story of a political legend
Mutua added that the proposed film should explore the extraordinary journey of a man who shaped Kenya’s democracy and served alongside four different presidents.

“It would delve into the intriguing mystery of a man who has served as either a backup president or co-president with four different Heads of State, stretching the imagination and unveiling his extraordinary story,” he wrote.

The entertainment industry veteran said that Raila’s legacy deserved to be immortalised through film to inspire future generations.

He concluded that such a project would be a fitting cultural tribute to a man whose impact transcended politics, religion and ethnicity.
