Abas Kunyo Guyo:Transforming The Social Services Sector In Tana River County
Tell us a bit about yourself:
My name is Abass Guyo.I am the CECM in charge of youth, sports, culture, gender and social services in Tana River county.Today I got a chance to represent and interact with members of minority groups from all over Kenya thanks to the Kenya Kwanza government.
What are your thoughts on today’s event at Bomas Of Kenya?I would like to congratulate the president for recognising and celebrating us as Kenyans from minority groups are rarely recognized.I must say that the government is moving in the right direction and we hope that things are going to be better from here.
What would you like the president to do for you as a community?
We are asking humbly if our president could consider appointing a member from our communities in high ranking positions because we are greatly under represented. We don’t have anyone appointed in any major offices from our community. We are qualified and very capable yet we are left out.
What is the secret to success?Treat everyone equally and give equal opportunities to everyone.
What would you like your legacy to be?My legacy is to ensure that I serve the people whole heartedly without any motives and to uplift those who are disadvantaged so that they can be empowered and make an impact in society.
Many people praise you for your leadership skills.Do you see yourself running for public office anytime soon?I have been working as a teacher and educational officer for some years now.I was appointed as CEC in 2018 and in 2013 I was also appointed to serve the people of Tana River county. If given a chance I will serve people well.I am ready to serve people in any capacity and if supported I will contest.
What is the biggest challenge your community is facing politically?
At the moment the issue we have is numbers because I am from a minority group but if we come together and form a coalition we will be powerful like never before.
