Sakaja writes to EACC over employment syndicate at City Hall

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has written to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate and bring to book rogue officers operating an employment syndicate at City Hall.
In his letter addressed to EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak, Sakaja raised claims of alarming instances where job seekers are coerced into paying money to secure employment opportunities within different departments in the county government.
Sakaja noted that some of the job seekers end up paying the bribes, which is a serious form of corrupt practices but end up missing out on the promised employment chances.
“This practice, which is essentially a form of corruption and extortion, is not only unethical but blatantly illegal, severely undermining the integrity of the employment practices in the public sector,” Sakaja said.
“In light of these disturbing reports, I respectfully request your intervention to conduct a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into these allegations,” the Governor added in his letter.
Sakaja said the investigations would not only help in identifying and prosecuting those responsible but also act as a strong deterrent against such corrupt practices in the future.
